Meet Your Makers: Charlie Haughey

January 10, 2012

Meet one of our very first members, Charlie Haughey.

Name: Charlie Haughey

Occupation: Retired, and loving it.

Charlie has been a member of ADX since the very beginning.

After his son moved here from Kalamzoo, MI ten years ago, Charlie began making yearly visits to Portland to visit his son. After about ten years, Charlie decided to move out here himself.

Working with his hands and making things out of wood is so important to Charlie, that he knew he had to find a space in his new town to accommodate his passions. He looked around town with his son for a place where he could be comfortable and ply his trade. After looking into several organizations, Charlie decided that ADX was the place for him. He had his several tool-chests shipped out from Michigan and moved into his very own space on our factory floor.

He has made a variety of wonderful things since coming to ADX in July – most notably: a model airplane, a  cabinet, an enormous propeller, and the framework for a model sailboat. He even started work again on a 25 year-old project!

Charlie has made all of these things out of scrap wood that he has harvested from ADX.
