GANG OF TEN Spotlight: Meet Lynn Feinstein of Mobius Home
June 27, 2011
Great spaces require great design. Meet Lynn Feinstein, owner and operator of Möbius Home. Her interior design company helps freshen up the look of homes and working environments with things you already have, in order to simplify your surroundings so your dwelling is restful, not stressful. We’re really excited to have her expertise on hand as a member of our Gang of Ten!
Name: Lynn Feinstein
Occupation: Interior Designer/Owner at Möbius Home
ADX: How long have you been a designer?
All my life. I remember making a miniature chair out of a soda can when I was about 9 or 10 years old!
ADX: How did you get started?
I went to SJSU to study graphic design and changed my major to sculpting after living in Florence Italy, living and breathing Michelangelo, Donatello, Brunelleschi, DaVinci, and all the great masters. I picked up paying jobs as a graphic designer during and in-between school.
ADX: What led to your passion for fabrication and design?
I have always been a maker. I took jewelry classes in high school; that is where my passion for metal working translated to the larger scale of sculpting. From there it evolved into model and mold makin,g and product and graphic design at Nike and other major fitness, apparel, and footwear companies. Now my business Möbius Home makes interiors unique and individualized by redecorating with what the clients already own and repurposing items for new uses.
ADX: What led you here and why are you involved as a Gang of Ten member?
Being a part of the creative community that ADX attracts led me here, and I love having the opportunity to network with other designers in similar disciplines for future collaborative opportunities.
ADX: Do you have any specific projects in the works?
I’m working on a kitchen update in Laurelhurst and a custom-designed ‘upcycled’ retail display case.
ADX: What significance does collaboration have in your creative process?
It’s very significant. To be a resourceful decorator requires collaboration with architects, artists, photographers, craftspeople and artisans, graphic, interior and web designers, and resale and mindfully manufactured retail owners, to name a few.
ADX: What are your methods in creating your work? Do you have a specific design process?
I start by meeting with the client to learn what their needs and wants are. We talk about what they like and don’t like in the space they want to change, what colors inspire them, and what styles they are drawn to. Then I work out a design plan creating design boards with suggestions they can refer to to make the space the place they envision– beginning with what they already own. This requires research on trend, color, styles of influence, and mindfully manufactured product that would enhance what they have, should they need some things they don’t already have, or just need an update.
