GANG OF TEN Spotlight: Meet Ava Hegedus!
April 27, 2011

ADX is unique in that our collaborators are from all backgrounds and all sorts of creative disciplines. Our “Gang of Ten” co-working office serves to harness the unique skills of each occupant. From industrial designers, to architects, and from graphic designers to business consultants, the space is a veritable hotbed of resources for both the office itself and ADX members at large.
In this recurring blog, we’ll introduce some of the professionals working from our co-working space as a Gang of Ten member. Get to know your onsite resources!
Ava Hegedus does it all. Not only is she a skilled videographer and photographer with a stellar list of clients and experience, but she’s also a renowned DJ and local scribe. Her latest project, a music video for Soul Clap made from over 1500 still shots, was just awarded Honourable Selection by the inimitable K7 Records. We’re thrilled to have Ava as a member of the Gang of Ten…we love her creativity and her enthusiasm.

ADX: What, professionally, really makes you tick?
Those moments when I am doing something really fun and creative and fulfilling and I realize it’s my job.
ADX: How do you hope to benefit from working in a collaborative environment?
I’m interested in documenting the events / projects / ideas / changes / progressions at ADX, so I hope to collaborate with just about everyone who comes through the space as they add to that story. Portland has a pretty fractured art and music community and I look forward to finding ways to meld and expand with other creative minds to make the scene a functioning network instead of a bunch of little disconnected pods.
ADX: What are your methods for reaching those oft-elusive creative discoveries? Do you have a specific process for brainstorming, working, and generating feedback?
I get overwhelmed if I feel like there are too many ideas in my head, so I start by writing everything down so I know I’m not forgetting anything. Whether it’s for a written article, a video project, a DJ set or event planning, I scribble down every possible theme, idea, facet, category, problem, song, related word, concept, etc. and then start to visual how this all fits into a finished product. I slowly weed out the pieces that don’t fit and start creating an old school outline, like from 8th grade English class. It works! And I don’t ever accidentally leave anything out. I try to always get feedback before I’m actually done with something so that I don’t get frustrated when people suggest changes on something that I feel like is already a finished product.
ADX: What other parts of the ADX facility are you excited to use or learn how to operate?
I’m extremely excited to learn how to use all of the tools, but welding and metal work are of specific interest. How empowering to be able to bend metal!
