ADX Seeks Fabrication/Shop Intern

ADX is seeking a shop and fabrication intern with a perfect storm of practical and technical skills to help us roll out the ADX concept to Portland’s creative community at large. The internship, which will run for 90 days, must qualify for school credit or the candidate must be a current college student, as this role is an unpaid learning opportunity.
This intern with work with us and alongside our shop tech to set up wood and metal shops, put safety systems in place, acquire tools, and finalize our build out— while helping complete other tasks as needed. The internship will evolve when we open and will be geared towards making sure members are using the tools safely, keeping the shop space clean, and the tools maintained. This role will also include assisting with planning and executing our special events.
Candidates must be available on Monday, Wednesday, and/or Friday – hours are negotiable, but we request between 10-15 hours/wk.
REQUIREMENTS:
• knows how to use both wood and metal tools
• well-versed in shop safety
• likes to work collaboratively
• knows how to help people use tools safely
• well-versed in the prototyping process
• knows how to maintain tools
DUTIES:
Immediate
• help build and lay out wood and metal shop
• help acquire tools
• help recruit members
Longer Term
• staff shop during member hours
• clean shop
• perform tool maintenance
• help staff ADX material and tool store/library
• help plan, promote, and execute special events
• other duties as assigned
