ADX Blacksmithing Classes With Bridgetown Forge

Learn the basics of blacksmithing in two incredible hands-on courses! Select between Basic Blacksmithing and Knifemaking. ADX members are offered a discount on both offerings; nonmembers are encouraged to sign up as well (for the full rate).
All classes will be held at partnering facility Bridgetown Forge in North Portland, right off the Columbia Blvd exit of I-5. Bridgetown Forge is a fully equipped smithy, over 4000SF in size. It features not only traditional anvils and forges, but also modern equipment such as pneumatic power hammers, TIG welders and hydraulic presses. The showroom has many samples of forge work, ranging from sculpture to railings, hardware and knives.
Before your check out the class, join us for a live demonstration on the anvil Thursday, October 13 at 6pm. Arnon will teach a few lucky students how to create hooks and small nails, fasteners, etc on an anvil. All are welcome to watch, but if you’d like to take part for a $10 materials fee, please register HERE.
BASIC BLACKSMITHING
10/22 & 10/23 (9:30am-4pm)
This 2-session weekend course that will teach the fundamentals of the craft; drawing out, bending, cutting, splitting, twisting and riveting. Each student will make and take home a variety of items, such as ornamental hooks, square-cut nails, a fire poker, and a candleholder.

MAKE YOUR OWN CHEF’S KNIFE
11/11, 11/12 (9:30am-4pm) & 11/13 (9:30am-1pm)
In this 3-day course, each student will make a 7-inch chef’s knife, forging it out of premium carbon steel, heat-treating it, and honing it to a perfect edge. This will be the knife your hand reaches for instinctively when you cook.

About the instructor:
Arnon practices and teaches the ergonomic forging method, as taught by Master Blacksmith Uri Hofi of Israel. This method allows for very fast and accurate forging, while minimizing stress on the joints and muscles. This method is easy to learn, and makes the whole experience of smithing more enjoyable.
