Making a Chef’s knife: July 13, 14, 15 (Fri-Sat-Sun) The hours are 9:30 –4:00 on Friday and Saturday, and 9:30 –13:00 on Sunday. We will forge a 7-inch, Japanese-style chef’s knife out of a high carbon steel bar, stamp it with your initials, clay-harden it to produce a Japanese-style differential heat treatment, temper it, and attach a handle, and hand-hone it on a water stone. The class will also cover the ergonomic forging method, and the theory of heat treating steel. If time allows, we might make an additional item. The knife, and anything else you make is yours to take home. The cost is $420, which includes all materials and safety equipment. No previous blacksmithing experience required. The class is limited to 6 students.
